Filter coffee is a beautifully simple way to brew a clean, aromatic cup that highlights the true flavor of your beans. Whether you’re using a traditional Indian filter or a drip coffee maker, the process is straightforward — and the results are smooth and satisfying.
What Is Filter Coffee?
Filter coffee refers to coffee that’s brewed by passing hot water through ground coffee beans using a filter. The filter can be made of paper, metal, or cloth, depending on your brewing method.
This method captures the coffee’s natural oils and aromas, producing a balanced, full-bodied cup.

How to Make Filter Coffee (Classic Method)
What You’ll Need:
-
Freshly ground coffee beans (medium grind) — try Breakfast Blend Coffee or 6 Bean Blend Coffee
-
Hot water (around 195–205°F / 92–96°C)
-
Filter cone or coffee machine
-
Paper or metal filter
-
Mug or carafe
Method:
-
Place your filter in the cone and rinse it with hot water to remove any paper taste and preheat your equipment.
-
Add 2 tablespoons (10g) of coffee per 180ml of water.
-
Pour a little hot water over the grounds to let them bloom (release trapped gases) for about 30 seconds.
-
Slowly pour the rest of the water in circular motions, allowing it to drip evenly through the grounds.
-
Once the dripping stops, remove the filter and enjoy your freshly brewed coffee.
How to Make Coffee in a Traditional Indian Filter
If you’re using a traditional Indian coffee filter, the process differs slightly. This method produces a rich, strong decoction that’s mixed with milk for a creamy finish.
Ingredients:

2 tablespoons ground coffee (try Colombian Coffee Beans for a smooth profile)
-
¾ cup hot water
-
Milk and sugar to taste
Method:
-
Add ground coffee to the upper chamber of your metal filter.
-
Pour hot water over it and close the lid.
-
Let it drip slowly into the lower chamber (this may take 10–15 minutes).
-
Mix ¼ cup of the decoction with hot milk and sugar.
-
Pour back and forth between two cups to create froth — and serve hot!
