How to Make a Coffee Frappe

A coffee frappe is a cool, creamy, and energising drink — perfect for hot days or when you fancy something a little indulgent. Originating in Greece, the frappe has since become a café favourite worldwide. Here’s how to make your own delicious coffee frappe at home.

What Is a Coffee Frappe?

A frappe is a blended iced coffee drink, typically made with instant coffee, water, sugar, and milk or cream. It’s shaken or blended until frothy and served cold, often with whipped cream or a drizzle of syrup on top.

While it started with instant coffee, modern versions often use espresso, flavoured syrups, or even ice cream.

How to Make a Classic Coffee Frappe

Ingredients:

  • 2 teaspoons of instant coffee (try Frozen Amazon Coffee for a smooth taste)

  • 2 teaspoons of sugar (adjust to taste)

  • 120ml cold water or milk

  • Ice cubes (about 1 cup)

  • Optional: a splash of vanilla syrup or caramel sauce

Method:

  1. Add the instant coffee, sugar, and a small amount of water (about 30ml) to a shaker or blender.

  2. Shake or blend until the mixture turns frothy.

  3. Add the remaining water or milk, along with the ice.

  4. Blend again until smooth and creamy.

  5. Pour into a tall glass, top with whipped cream if desired, and enjoy!

How to Make a Frappe Without Coffee

If you love the flavour but want to skip the caffeine, you can easily make a coffee-free frappe. Replace the instant coffee with:

  • Cocoa powder for a mocha-style drink

  • Decaf coffee like Swiss Water Decaf Blend Coffee

  • Flavoured syrups such as caramel or hazelnut for a sweet treat

This version is perfect for kids or anyone avoiding caffeine.

How to Make a Caramel Coffee Frappe

For a sweeter twist, add 1–2 tablespoons of caramel syrup to your frappe mixture before blending. Use milk instead of water for a creamier texture and top with whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce.

Try pairing it with our Dulce Blend Coffee — its naturally sweet, smooth profile complements caramel perfectly.

Tips for the Perfect Frappe

  • Use cold ingredients to help maintain that thick, icy texture.

  • Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent version.

  • Experiment with flavours like chocolate, hazelnut, or coconut.
