What is Cafetière Coffee?
A cafetière, sometimes known as a French press, is an excellent all-purpose piece of coffee equipment. It's simple to use, complements any roast, and comes in two sizes (the 3-Cup and 8-Cup), making it ideal for travelling alone or entertaining guests. This brewing method really brings out the full body flavour that the coffee has to offer.
What will you need?
Glad you asked. You will need:
-
Coarsely ground Coffee (Scroll to the bottom of the page for suggestions)
-
Cafetière
-
Tablespoon
-
Kettle
-
Timer
- Scale (optional for weighing out coffee - 15g per cup)
How to Make Cafetière Coffee
Step 1. Pour a dash of fresh hot water into the cafetière (without coffee) and tip it out.
Step 2. Add 1 scoop of freshly ground coffee per cup (roughly 15g per cup).
Step 3. Add freshly boiled water.
Step 4. Place the cover on, leaving the plunger up, and boil for 4 minutes to brew coffee - any longer and the coffee will over-extract, resulting in a bitter cup.
Step 5 (No one else tells you this). To reduce the possibility of any gunk at the bottom of your coffee remove the coffee grounds floating on the surface.
Step 6. Gently push the cafetière plunge down until you feel resistance. (We like to wait 5 minutes before pouring.)
Step 7. Pour & Enjoy.
